I just found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1877-Indian...em3a9ad9db63It's ending in about 6 minutes, having had 18 bids and selling for $350. It looks to me like some kind of miniature novelty coin. I'm having trouble imagining how big the flip has to be in order for the scale of the pictures to be correct. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Hasn't there been enough of an uproar from the coin community by now for ebay to police these sorts of items?

And here's another one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-1877-I...251706071907Is there any way to report when these are found? *EDIT: I just noticed that this guy at least put miniature in the description. The item in the original link was listed as an actual 1877 coin.*

Quote: Is there any way to report when these are found? Yes, although it doesn't do much good. ebay would rather make money than end a fraudulent listing just because it's the right thing to do. I believe you can only report an item if you have an ebay account. If you do, scroll down on the listing, and above the description, you will see there is a link that says "report item". If you are already logged in, great, but if not, enter your username and password, and log-in. It will then bring up a form that narrows down why you are reporting this. For counterfeit coins, I always select "prohibited and restricted items", then "stamps, currency and coins, and then "replica coins and paper money". Just be sure that the item is indeed inappropriate or violating a policy before submitting a report.

you can report items on ebay, but they rarely do anything (they just care that they get their fees). This is why I don't buy on ebay anymore.

I have no pity for whoever bought that thing.

It is so blatantly obvious that the coin is not real and undersized that it is amazing that ten different people placed bids on this fantasy piece.

Is there any market for these mini's (as exonumia maybe) that would support that price?

This is one of the main reasons I hate ebay. It's capitalism at it's finest, everybody trying to screw everybody else for a dime. When I buy US coins I always buy them in person from dealers I know and have a good relationship with, and when I buy ancients I use Vcoins because there are no ancient dealers in my area, so I pay a premium so that I don't have to deal with the selfish mess that is ebay.

I reported both replicas ... Took but a few seconds, each.

Geez, those two loser "coins" look like they're made out of plastic.
You'd think that people who have enough knowledge to know how valuable an 1877 is would also be smart enough not to bid on this garbage.
