I have a valuable coin I got recently but my knife addiction is really getting to me and I want to sell it. What are some recommendations for selling? There is a local coin shop that will probably offer a little bit lower then bid, and then there is ebay but I don't really have the time to list it on ebay. What would you do? Any dealers worth trying? |

Try an auction house like greatcollections.com I've sold many pre-1933 gold through them.

I suggest you submit to CAC prior to selling. A bean should get you more money.

Price it around with 2-3 major dealers. You will get a good idea of the going price on it. If you have a group of them you want to sell, break it up and get multiple quotes on each coin to maximize your returns. Don't sell a large group to one dealer. ;)

@jimbucks - I don't think individuals can submit to CAC. Unless something changed, they only accept submissions from preregistered dealers, auction houses, etc...

You should try to sell it directly to another collector through a coin forum like CCF. That coin is highly liquid and desirable - an easy sell with little need to wholesale it out for offers or taking a nearly 15% hit on eBay/PayPal/S&H fees.

I would just bite the bullet and list it on ebay. The truth is they reach an audience you just don't have access to, especially on big coins. |

Yeah that's a good $4,500 coin. Auction commission and ebay fees would eat up a chunk. These are the perils when it comes time to sell. Do you pay the fees or sell it to brick and mortar dealer for less than you would like. There is always peer to peer for a fair amount but trust is not easily earned on the Internet. Either way you won't get as much as you like but you already know that ..you just don't want to get taken for to much skin. |
