1936-S over 1929 Over-date Mercury Dimewhats your opinion as to if you think it might be a match or not? I have wanted one of these for about 2 days so I searched every 1936-s I came across. Thinking odds are I wont find one. But I believe this one looks like it has all the markers and then some. Its still in the mail so I hope it is the correct variety. I took the risk for $8 and bought it but I will see in a few days if I was good to go... I will post higher resolution photos then... Mind you I am only going by these two little pictures and then blowing them up to see more details. This next photo is the same front photo just blown up..it appears to match the coin in CPG FS-10-1936s-11 very good from the two pictures I had to go by. This one appears to have extra 6 off the rim also Please Note: I am not posting this to debate whether the variety itself is or is not a over-date. Too me it is just another variety in the cpg to hunt down and add it to my collection if its interesting. To me the fun to search for and the find of rare variety. below is a picture of existing variety to use for comparison. Edited by OcalaFlorida 11/13/2014 6:30 pm

I still don't accept the CPG's listing.
But, hey, I've been wrong before

I don't think so...the tips of the "6" are not the same (top one is flat while the other is pointed)...although it may be the low quality image of the coin in question.
What the heck, take a chance!

I do like the "hook" of the "2" under the "3". Although the "extra" "6" (along with the rest of the digits in the date) are shift doubling.
I would send it to ANACS to have it authenticated.

With the new pictures, I would say yes. You've learned and contributed a lot to this forum Ocala, and I still remember your first post.

This one is definitely the variety being called an "overdate." I don't consider it an overdate, nor do I believe an overdate with that large a date spread is even possible. No other US overdate issue is separated by more than 3 years, and even those predate the Mint's policy of almost immediately destroying dated dies begun decades before this coin was struck. Yeah, it's something. Just not an overdate.
