Do they have any kind of shininess to them at all? Do they have a slight blue tint to them, or do all from that year have that? I'm having trouble with finding any information that tells them apart.

Any of the coins that are supposed to have the chrome are "bluish" in colour. The one's that do not look like any other coin - no bluish color or chrome at all on them. You can go here to see a picture of one without chrome (near the bottom of the page - top is chrome, and there's one tombac also. http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-pri...ts-1937-1952

they may have a lustre or "shininess" but it will not have a chrome plating, so it won't have a blue or mirror like finish, or even spots of it!

No problem pennyman007. I'm glad you found it useful. The image seems appropriate to the discussion. Now I wish I hadn't sold my no-chrome nickels! The 1944 was a beauty.

Hi Folks Its been a while since my last post but I thought some 5 cents collectors might like to see this. It is the entire population of Mint State Missing Chrome certified by CCCS. As you will see some are extremely rare. Louis

I had a PDF of that paper (20th Century Chrome) in my digital library, but there was no author on that article on the pdf - I knew it had to be an older CCRS member, but I never knew that it was you, Joe, who wrote that!! Excellent article by the way. Was it published anywhere else? In other words, if I had to reference it, what would be the proper reference to that paper?

Quote: Was it published anywhere else? Thanks Roger. I displayed the text & coins at the Nov ENS show in 2007. I got interested in the subject when Randy was exploring partially plated & unplated examples of that time period.
