A few subtle clues are there... uncommon, but not super-rare in Canadian 1-cent strikes. You can even decipher the date with this one (without knowing the weight)...

This one was incorrectly identified by my favourite error columnist, who shall remain unnamed, for I don't want my (online) name dragged through the manure again in Canadian Coin News...

(Zonad and Mr. Diamond - you have seen this before, so no letting the cat out of the bag!!)

I think that SPP is asking us to identify the error, not the date.

Since you didn't show the edge of the coin, my guess is a split planchet, split after strike.

1986 struck through, eg; cloth, rag etc, or perhaps grease. Seems to be some patterning going on.

First thing comes to mind is struck through VLS cap. Slight finning on the obverse? Nice cent either way.

Pennyman007 and robmck1967 nailed it!! It is a very late stage counter-brockage. The details are not in mirror image, and are spread very wide (not quite in a linear fashion) and the cap was so thin that the normal reverse ghost can be seen.

Look again at the original post and image, and then key your eye in on these details. The '0' from the date is clear - this is a 1980 cent.

A-Challenging-One-For-The-Error-Folks...

Here is a stretched (linear) overlay, which is almost a perfect match to the details annotated above.
