I'm trying to fill in a few missing years, where is the best place to get rolls of 50 cent pieces? Do the banks in Canada still have them?

Generally banks would only have rolls of brand new 50¢ from the mint, and typically only on request in advance. I have a ton of 50¢ pieces though. What year(s) are you looking for?

I have almost all from 1937 and up. Missing a couple of the newest ones but I can get those at a local coin store here in Ottawa.
I'm looking for a 1948 and anything earlier than 1937. All of mine are circulated with some wear but still in great shape. My dad had collected when he was younger. They got passed onto me about 6 years ago.
Any recommendations for good coin dealers in Ottawa or nearby?

I have a few lower-middle grade 1948s and a bunch of duplicates of pre-1937 pieces I'd be willing to part with. I'm not in Ottawa, nor do I know anyone in that area. Let me know if you're interested (or send me a private message) and I'll send you some pics of what I have. Sorry, no 1921 tho

I think SPP lives in ottawa and I am sure that he knows some other people that may have what you want, not to mention what he has.

Be patient.. get your post count up and sooner than you know it you can post on the buy sell trade section of this forum... put up you "want list" and I think there will be a lot of people that can help you out.

I always recommend my wife's ebay store She allows for local pickup.

The banks cannot order rolls of 50 cent pieces, as they are no longer minted for circulation. The mint sells rolls to collectors at 2x face value. You may luck out and be able to buy a few here and there from different banks, but rule of thumb is they are not easily found.

I got 34 different years of nickel 50 cent pieces last year by going into the local banks and asking if they had any 50 cent pieces. They are not technically mint state but vey little wear. Ones from recent years are hard to find that way and you almost never find silver.

Punman, and others, 50 cent nickel I get very often. It is not worth it to collect them IMO.(few "mint created" exceptions) If anyone wishes to have them (Canada only) @ Face Value plus shipping, whenever I have some, please PM.I have no use for them.
