I would believe this is either Struck Through Grease or cloth, or it was struck on a very old die, and had worn down. I would think this would command a premium. Unfortunately the coin is well circulated as well, so I am not sure what it may be worth.

Parts of the die was filled with something, grease or dirt is my best guess. Definitely not cloth as it makes a different cloth-y "pattern". The struck through area is quite big, I haven't seen one this big on a Canadian cent. I don't think the die was that worn. I've seen worse Die Deterioration but it doesn't look like this. Not an overpolished die either since the denticles and top of George's hair is till there.

Nice find!
Probably struck through something or the die used was not up to spec.
1943 was an interesting year at the Mint, in so much as they had to contend with unusual factors.
Although you did not ask a value, I am a collector of these types of coins and would not think twice about laying out 10.00 for this coin.
Can you post a picture of the reverse?

Yes with the above, it looks to be weaker on the left side of the legend then of the right. So struck through. not to be on Bellmakers favor, but the coin is very worn and unattractive in that manner so $10 is not a bad mark for it, and it is especially hard to find someone who is going to want to pay more for it.

Appreciate the picture!
Interesting that the reverse, except the CA in Canada (might be my eyes), is not missing more detail.

First 2 pics: -Lamination issue planchet flaw -Dissapearing denticles (grease or maybe polished away) -Oblong dots (may well be a double die) -Interesting looking "HP" Second 2 pics: -Looks like Grease Filled Die obverse Quote:
Interesting that the reverse, except the CA in Canada (might be my eyes), is not missing more detail. Actually Greasers usually strike up fine on the opposite side, try compacting grease it has about as much compact-ability as hydraulic fluid... Just my opinion :)

I can appreciate your logic pennyman007.
If a grease or oil is pushed beyond the limits of their properties, they do begin to thicken.
Now add fine particles of metal to the mix.
Then add fine particles of sawdust to the mix.
