So I have recently fell in love with the 1943 Steel Cent and I am trying to hoard as many as I can. They are such a cool piece I think and have allot of history evolved with this cent. As much as 1964 coins are being melted down. these precious coins are disappearing and I have no idea how to buy them. I need help any suggestions. Not a big fan of online shopping so...

I see those in world coin bins a lot where you can get 10 for a $1 and you look through them. I don't know if that's just a Canada thing but I like em too!

I just bought a bunch of them from a local dealer and have been spending the last week sorting them out. I group them by "ugly reprocessed", "rusty junk", "avg circ" and "nice almost UNC and better". I end up only keeping the AU/UNCS and ship off the other stuff. Nice coins just keep getting harder and harder to find. My favorites are the nice AU/UNCS (like your coin pictured). I absolutely hate the blue tinged, artificial finish, downright UGLY reprocessed ones! I see groups of steelies on ebay now and then. You might try looking there for large lots. You should also check with your local coin shop and see what they can do for you. Wholesale "buy" on avg circs run about 12 to 15 cents per coin. They should retail from your LCS in the 15 to 20 cents each range. Good luck!

Jdmerns had a role for sale on his ebay page. His single coins ship for amazing rates but rolls are a bit more (every Canadian in the world knows what I am talking about). Work your way up to 50 quality posts and write a "want list".

Glad you found a specific year of Lincolns you like. The good thing for you is these were widely hoarded, they are cheap and there are plenty of them in the market. I have to disagree about them "disappearing", there are literally millions of them out there. You just need to look harder. Try you're local coin shop, I bet they have hundreds of them.

Try flea markets, garage/yard sales too. Look up coin shows and coin stores. There are always piles of them there. At one flea market I go to there is a dealer that always has a bin of coins on his table. Lots of those in there and usually for about $0.25 each. I used to have over 4,000 of them but started giving many away to kids. Now down to a little over 2,000.

My coin shop will sell me as many as I want for 20 cents each. They are very easy to find.

Of course they are easy to find, but try finding nice, AU to UNC coins that haven't been reprocessed. 70 year old zinc coated steel doesn't "weather" very well.

My dumb butt manager turn away a man who wanted to exchange ten dimes for a dollar, the dumb butt told the guy "sir those are pennys not dimes" so when the guy leaves then he calls me out of my office & told me what happen this dumb butt knows I collect old coins a money. So image ten steel pennys walking away.

Steelers fan here. Also like steelies and I don't care if they are reprocessed if the details remain relatively crisp. I like buying them and giving them to young'uns and they like bright ones. I usually put them in flips so they age a bit better when I do this. Like silver certificates, Ikes, and $2 bills they are easy to get and might spark interest in the young people. Worst case is they spend them and someone else might catch the bug.
