All I know is that this is not a UK coin but some sort of token since UK coins will always have the monarch on the heads side of the coin.

Hello and welcome. First of all, to clarify some terminology: it's not a "coin", nor is it a "token". It's a "medal". I see you're from Australia. I checked through my Carlisle catalogue of Australian commemorative medals and it's not listed there, so it's fair to assume that it's a British medal. Running a Google search for "BBA group limited" (exact phrase) turns up several company-database hits for a company in Britain, but no actual company website. So it's fair to assume the company has either changed names or is no longer in existence. Tunnelling down a bit more, we find a company called BBA Aviation, whose History webpage indicates they were founded in 1879 and known as "BBA Group" from 1967 to 2006. They made parts for cars and planes, but since the 2006 name change they have focussed on plane parts. The Google search also came up with this example of your medal, offered on ebay by a seller in Germany for 2 euro; the listing was pulled before sale (presumably because the seller either gave up, lost it or sold it off-line). It doesn't help with the "how many" either, but does indicate the piece is not considered to be valuable or sought-after. I would speculate that they were produced for the company centenary and given away to workers; if the company had an open day of some kind to mark the event they may have sold them to visitors.

Hi Kyser1981 My wife has just dug out the same medal that you have. It was given to her by a Gentleman who Worked For the BBA Group Limited for many years. It was presented to all the current employees at the time of the Companies 100 years celebrations. The Company is now dissolved but over the later years changed its name many times when I knew of it, it was Scandi it also became Mintex in the later years it was heavenly involved in Brake-linings and the manufacture of belting in the mining industry. The name stood for British Belting and Asbestos. Hope this helps with your inquiries do not know if it would have any value but would suspect they would become rare over time. javascript:insertsmilie(' ')
