At one time, the Liberty Head dime, commonly referred to as the Barber dime, was also known as the Morgan dime. The reason I read for this is that people thought it resembled the Morgan dollar.

I find that hard to believe. I see no resemblance between the two; and besides, they face in opposing directions. Anyone have a better reason?

Sounds to logical to not be true.

Here is a link with a quote from wikipedia from what I was basing it on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barber_coinage

Barber's head of Liberty is purely classical, and is rendered in the Roman style. The head is modeled after the French "Ceres" silver coinage of the late 19th century, but bears a resemblance to Morgan's design for the silver dollar.[34] This did not escape numismatist Walter Breen in his comprehensive guide to US coins, "Barber must have been feeling unusually lazy. He left the [dime] rev[erse] design as it had been since 1860, with minor simplifications. His obv[erse] was a mirror image of the Morgan dollar head, with much of Miss Anna Willess Williams's[b] back hair cropped off, the rest concealed ... within a disproportionately large cap."

Well, that was one of the places where Breen isn't even remotely correct.

I see "similarities" with these coins, but that's just my opinion.

Oh, okay, now I do see some similarity between the Barber and the Morgan heads. Perhaps back then, when everyone wasn't used to them like we are, the similarity was even more striking.

Pretty much a mistaken belief. The Liberty Head dime was designed by Charles Barber, who treated George Morgan and all competition around him very poorly. I see no similarity in the designs. Morgan's design was artistically beautiful, while Barber's designs were generally bland copies of others work.
