Nice, and it's an '83 P too!

I still can't figure out why those are worth so much, but no matter, it will only help the value of your coin.

I think you are missing the reason why there is no reeding though...it was struck with part of the collar missing, hench it not being round and oversized.

I think because they were not released in circulation. So anyone collecting them had to buy a set to get the quarter.

I'm fairly certain it's the other way around...82's and 83's were released into circulation and no sets were made those years.

There were no mint sets for sale that year except the set you could get at each mint that year. So BU examples of coins from that year of all denominations should be kept in higher grades as collectors have to buy them from collectors to get them those years.
