I found this large cent metal detecting so it definitely has some pitting on it, but I would like to know a detail's grade on this coin, it looks to be Sheldon 255, and has some nice details, any ideas on a details grade?

With the hair, drapery, and wreath detail, I'm leaning towards XF details.
It was lost from it's original owner over 200 years ago and I'll bet the last time it saw sunlight, there was still a trace of luster amongst the protected areas.
Nice find!

It looks nice for a metal detecting find. I think a solid vf with environmental damage.

Thanks Vermontensium, it was found in New Hampshire in dry vernal pool. The problem is that during the whole spring it's completely underwater, and after a heavy rain it's like quick sand. The vernal pool is in the woods where there was a farm 250 years ago.

It looks like there is more pitting on the reverse (which makes it more difficult to detail grade it).
Overall though, I would give it a detail grade of VF45.
