Hello Everyone
I inherited a small coin collection from my grandfather, who passed away a few years ago. I need some extra cash for Christmas this year so I've been trying to research how much these coins are worth before I try and sell them. After a few hours of research online I put together a list of what I have and what I hope I can get for each coin. I was wondering if someone could just tell me if I'm right or wrong or give some advice.

Here's what I have and how much I'm estimating its value, I just need to know exactly how wrong I am and where I should take these to get the best price. My first instinct is Craigslist, what do you think?

Uncirculated Statue of Liberty half dollar, 1986 = $6.5 - $7.5

Liberty Silver Dollar, 1922 = (silver value $12.52), $28 - $500 (depending on quality, I guess I can't really tell but it seems like it's in good condition and it's mounted on a key chain)

JFK Half Dollars (prices from cointrackers.com 11/27/14)
1 â€" 1964D = $10 â€" $16
1 â€" 1967 = $0.50 - $4
3 â€" 1968 D = $0.50 â€" $4
3 â€" 1971 = $0.75 â€" $1.75
1 â€" 1971D = $0.75 â€" $1.75
1 â€" 1977 = $2 â€" $2.5
1 - 1986D = $5 â€" $6

2 Susan B. Anthony Liberty Dollars, 1979D and 1979P = $1.30 - $8
(I'm not sure if this is wide rim or not, I can't tell)

1934 Washington quarter = maybe $8 (too smooth to find a mint mark)
2 1959 Washington quarters = maybe $5?

1954 Wheat penny = $0.15 - $4

1959 Dime = $2 - $8

2 1967 Dimes = $0.10 - $1

Mexican coin: 1887, 50 Centavos (but it actually says CentavCs), D. C. 902.7 = ? There is one on ebay for $50; I read one sold at auction for $800.

I laid the coins out on my scanner to get an image.

I'm most interested in this Mexican coin. It's the only one that actually interests me because it was a real actual part of the wild west, and I think that's pretty cool. This very coin could have been in some cowboy's pocket, I can picture him throwing it down on the bar for some whiskey, or losing it in a poker game. As interesting as it is though, I need to sell it for as much as possible.

Take a look where it says 50 Centavos, does that look correct to you? Would that be a minting error or coin damage? What do you think this is worth? I've seen estimates from a dollar to a thousand dollars. All the other coins were pretty easy to appraise but this one seems to be up for a bit more interpretation maybe?

Thanks for your expertise!

You will have problems getting those prices from a dealer or anyplace off of ebay unless you are lucky..

Most of the pieces are what is termed junk silver. Around where I live you can expect about 10x face for the silver unless you had some sort of a relationship with a dealer. I can trade stuff in for other coins at about 12x with one dealer I know.

This means for pre-1964 silver US coins you will get $1 for a dime $2.50 for a quarter, and $5 for a half. 1965-1970 halves are usually bought by a dealer for about $2 a piece. Your other halves are worth face value.

Any lower than these prices and you are being cheated.

The Wheat penny I would expect 2.5 cents for. It's a extremely common date in circulated condition.

The silver dollar would be most likely $14 from a dealer. A educated street buyer may pay $20 if you are lucky.

No idea about the Mexican coin, but foriegn coins are hard to sell unless you go on ebay and that might not be worth your time. A dealer around me would pay you by weight. Seems like you like it. You should think about keeping it for yourself to remind you of him.

The Susan b Anthony and newer dimes are worth face. The liberty half dollar maybe $4 on a good day dealer wise.

Well Someone, first of all second, it appears that (minus the Mexican centavos, definitely not my area of expertise at all) your small collection could fetch about $50-$60 on ebay from what I have seen the past few months. The 1970s and up half dollars are just going to be face value (50 cents) along with the 1960s dimes (10 cents). That is due to no silver content. But the 1964 half dollar, the 1922 "Peace" dollar, and the 1958 dime are 90% silver! 1965-1970 half dollars are 40% silver too! It does seem that the old Mexican coin (based on a quick online search) is about .393 troy ounces of silver and therefore could be worth at least $7 just for silver content but maybe a little something more due to numismatic worth, but I will leave that to others more knowledgeable in that area. Hope this helped a little and good luck to you!

After looking at the Mexican coin a dealer might offer you $5 based on the silver.

Yes...I would agree that grouped together your collection would sell for around $50.
