There is some doubling on this coin, specifically on the 1,9,7(maybe), and the chin/lips/tie areas. I wanted to know if this is Mechanical Doubling, which it looks like. But, usually when I see this it comes with doubling on the mint mark and there is none. I would like some opinions about this coin and I appreciate your input. Thank you!

I'm no expert and even a bit reluctant to comment but because the doubling also extends to Abe's chin-mouth-nose and tie...I'd lean toward Machine Doubling and not HUB. BUT...I've been wrong plenty of times...hopefully the experts will chime in.

1957 had a lot of strong machine damage on them. This is another case of it. Note how the devices are reduced in size and not enlarged. Definite MD.

It is MD. The MM thing is because the MM was put on the die by hand after the die was made with MD on it.

MD has nothing to do with how the die was made or when the MM was added....it is a result of the bouncing of the die during the coining process.

I think John1 meant the coin has the machine damage on it. The die is a normal die, but with movement during the strike of the dies, the coin has machine damage because the coin is held firmly in place with the collar.
