Maybe somebody can help me out with this - this denarius of Nero weighs a scant 2,7 grams. As far as I can see from acsearch, this is far below the average for Nero denarii which tend to weigh above 3 grams.
I have no doubts about the authenticity (reliable source), but the weight does seem low.
Maybe somebody can shed some light on this? is this still within rage for Nero denarii?

Nero denarius, Rome.
RIC 68.
Legionary Aquila between two standards

Thanks you in advance,

Due to looks of worn edges, I would guess the weight is correct. Even when weighing the penny, I can get a difference of this much depending on wear or added dirt or debris. Happy Sunday !

Ancient coins are going to vary in weight, this is due to poor quality control at the mint. I have seen examples of Julio-Claudian denarii range from 2.5 to 4 grams. This is a nice post-reform denarius , congrats !

I have a Tiberius and a Galba denarius and both weigh 2.70 grams. From what I have read this is at the lower end of the Weight Tolerance for first century AD denarii.

I see nothing wrong with this coin, as AM pointed out the weight can vary from 2.5 to 4.0 grams. This is a nice looking coin.

What a great looking coin. A treat. Congratulations on it.

As far as the weight goes, I know what you mean. I have a Julius Caesar Republican Denarius (Elephant) coin that typically is around 19 mm and weighs 3.5 - 4 gm, and mine is 15 mm and weighs 2.44 gm. I purchased from a Most Reputable seller, so authenticity is not an issue.

This just happens from time to time, I guess.

Thank you all for your opinions. It is very much appreciated.
I was under the impression that weights above 3,0 grams are the norm
for 1st century denarii. Your comments dispel that notion.
