Does anyone know this set's origin (collector made, mint specimen, mint visitors/guest set?) and can they shed any light on its value or where to get it evaluated?

The box is a specimen case - but you have to be really careful when acquiring sets like this - sometimes the rare specimen strikes have been replaced by some people with decent (but much cheaper) business strikes...

yes very true. what is the year of this specimen set? I am guessing 1951-1954>

Very nice specimen set, and remember the more you open it the more the risk of a foreign substance ruining a coin and one dropping out.

It is a 1952 set...any advice on what its value is or where to get it evaluated? And I have left the coins in the holder and not handled them but I wonder if I should remove the coins and store in air-tites?

Any additional advice/info would be appreciated.

Thanks

A 1952 specimen set sold on Heritage in 2012 for US$1610, individually NGC graded mostly SP61/62 with the 5c in SP66.

You can get individual trend prices at ngc.com or coinsandcanada.com, although NGC only shows "proof" and I don't know if that's considered the same as SP to them.
http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ar-1937-1952 - makes me curious if they actually minted specimens in all three varieties (SWL, NWL, WL). Seems odd to me that the specimen dies would have the same polishing issues as the circulation strikes.

As far as putting them in air-tites, if it were me I wouldn't even handle them until I decided whether to slab or sell as-is. They've been like that presumably for 62 years, so a few more months isn't going to hurt.

I wonder if the original case adds any value as opposed to slabbing them individually? I'm no expert, just enjoy internet searching I guess. :)

I am not so sure that this is an OFFICIAL Specimen set in box. Please show us better pix if you are able. I have seen a 1953 circulation strike set in a box like yours. It came from a Spinks auction London c.1984-85.
There is certainly No case like yours listed in Charlton 2015.

Hi Pacificoin kbbpll et al
I can get more pics on the weekend {I keep the set at the bank}, but you would have to explain what would make a better picture....what/where are you looking to see? I haven't removed the coins themselves from the case, (there is not a white silk liner on the bottom of the case.)
I am just hobbiest and not that knowledgeable, but the case was significant to me when I purchased the set a couple years ago

Any and all help/advise appreciated.

Thanks again to all

I believe they are looking for a close up of the actual coin surfaces to tell you if they are truly specimen coins or if the originals were taken out and cheap circulation coins put in.

I would want to see a closeup of each coin (if possible) ,..and both sides.

A "macro setting" on an ordinary camera often works quite well if that's all that you have to work with.
Take a lot of pics and discard the ones that aren't in focus. Try to have the lens parallel to the coin surface and that puts the whole coin surface in sharp focus.

Take note of any markings on that case that might help you/us.
Be very careful when turning them over.

If it's right, then you have something special there..
