The first comment of the article sums it up perfectly:

Quote:
I love it. Let's celebrate progress instead of dead politicians. Let's set our sights to the future instead of the past.

There was a recent CW article about these. I believe a college student created them for a project. I can't say I like them but they are different.

To a large degree, I like those designs--although I think they're a bit monochromatic for security reasons.
When overseas, I've used some very cool, modern designs that honored scientists/discoveries.
Certainly the US has more than a few scientists worthy of that recognition. And, the designs themselves should get past the 19th. C.

I love it.

Unfortunately I don't think that we'll adopt notes in different sizes for different denominations any sooner than we'll retire the presidents tho.

but we did retire the presidents. from 1979~2006 no president appeared on $1 coins. or didnt you mean on paper money having no presidents? Franklin was never a president of anything except PEnnsylvania, yet he is on the $100?

What if our coins were science?

Imagine having something as sturdy as a coin instead of a flimsy credit card. You put the coin into a machine and it works like a credit card and does the transaction and spits your personal coin back out.

You get to design your own personal coin and then not only do you have your electronic banking device, but your pocket piece is the same thing! Every coin is unique and issued by the mint or by your bank like a check card or credit card company.

What wold happen to coin collecting? Instead of collecting dead presidents would you collect your deceased family members? Celebrities? If Bansky got their design on a coin, would the electronic data or the artwork be worth more?

What would the personal coin of different people be like, would the be like class rings that have the specific themes? Steve Jobs would have been the Apple logo? Walt Disney would have been Mickey Mouse. Bill Nye would have a Bill Nye coin. Stallone would have a Rambo or Rocky Balboa? Maybe he would have two, one for business and one for personal so each would be a half Balboa?

What future tech could we look forward too? All the fondle devices now have gotten silly, the only thing left really since we have gone ot space, envisioned living on the moon and other planets is that money starts spending us! Every thing else is science fiction like Jules Verne wrote until such a time as it becomes science fact.

I do realize Franklin wasn't a president. Poor choice of words on my part and a very literal interpretation of them on yours.

I like the concept! I wonder how much history classes have really changed. At a younger age I don't think we cared about those dead *presidents* except maybe Abe so its hard to say how much significance/ influence they have today. Don't get me wrong I'm sure most of us on here love and appreciate history and historic figures, but most people today care more about their Facebook updates. (and I'm 26)

I can already hear the vending and casino industry groaning over the note size difference. Better double the size and increase the contrast on the numbers in order to satisfy the ruling of the Meaningful Access bill. Don't forget those stipplings too.
