The Simpson collection is superb! Love to see those coins hitting the market, just wish I could afford to put a few in my collection.

The auction was tonight. Most of the Simpson dimes sold considerably less than expected. Some less than half. Keep in mind the prices realized are with the buyers fee added in. A bit of a blood bath for Legend Auctions. But a good night to be a buyer I guess.

Examples:

Lot # : 60 - 10C 1892-S PCGS MS66+ CAC EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate : 22,500.00 - 27,500.00 USD
Price realized: 13,000.00

Lot # : 62 - 10C 1893 PCGS MS67+ CAC EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate : 15,000.00 - 17,500.00 USD
Price realized: 11,000.00

Lot # : 63 - 10C 1893-O PCGS MS67 CAC EX ELIASBERG/SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate : 15,000.00 - 17,500.00 USD
Price realized: 9,250.00

Lot # : 64 - 10C 1893-S PCGS MS66 CAC EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate : 10,000.00 - 11,000.00 USD
Price realized: 5,250.00

Lot # : 66 - 10C 1894 PCGS MS68 EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate : 25,000.00 - 30,000.00 USD
Price realized: 17,500.00

Lot # : 68 - 10C 1895 PCGS MS67 CAC EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate: 37,500.00 - 45,000.00 USD
Price realized: 19,000.00

Lot # : 70 - 10C 1895-S PCGS MS66 CAC EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate: 17,500.00 - 20,000.00 USD
Price realized: 8,750.00

Lot # : 106 - 10C 1907-D PCGS MS67+ CAC EX SIMPSON
Pre auction estimate: 20,000.00 - 25,000.00 USD
Price realized: 10,000.00

And it goes on and on pretty much the same.

Not sure what happened but wow.

Holy cow, that was a beatdown. It's going to make people leery of consigning.

Note to self: Don't consign coins in a no reserve auction a week before Christmas.

So it turns out it was pretty much the MS Barber dimes that took the beating. Which of coarse is what I was looking at since it was this shows main promotion. After reading Laura's weekly market report it's a little clearer.

Not really sure why MS Barber dimes are getting the cold shoulder lately though.

The most damaged areas of the market today are (this is HUGE opportunity time) MS Seated and MS Barbers. Just follow the Gardner sales. Even the Simpson Collection of MS Barber dime sold VERY weak. We know all the major players participated too.

LEGEND RARE COIN AUCTIONS

BAM! We have come such a long way in the two years we have been in operation. This recent Regency 10 sale was almost a perfect bidding storm. The ONLY area of weakness, was the MS Barber dimes. Multiple areas far out paced the current market. This sale MORE then proves when nice coins are offered, this is what happens. Legend Auctions wishes to thank everyone who participated in making Regency Sale #10 such a huge succcess.

The sale started off strong. The very first HOUR the sale was live on the web we had the J-1950 5C 1913 pattern met its $75,000.00 reserve. That rarity sold for $99,875.00 all in! A world class bidding war erupted over a $1 1879S PCGS MS68+ Ex Bella. With all the big dollar buyers watching, the coin soared to $32,900.00. The 1893CC Amon Carter Proof 64 PCGS CAC piece brought $129,250.00 while the $1 1921 Chapman brought $123,375.00 with strong bidding. Not everything was a big ticket item that sold strong, the H.01 1825 PCGS MS64BN brought a whopping $4,582.50, a 10C 1863 PCGS PR66+ Cameo brought $6,168,75, and a gorgeous 25C 1914 PCGS PR66 Cameo CAC brought $4,935.00-just to name a few coins.

My friend and colleague asked that I do his auction bids so that he could have some family time with his children before the Holidays.

He had a list of approximately a dozen coins that he had done extensive research on before formulating any bidding plans. He is very through in every thing he does and has the # 1 Barber dime Set on NGC Registry.

He was missing the 03-S Dime to complete his collection. Legend's PCGS MS 67 - also a POP TOP - POP ONE coin was won after numerous bids.
I also won these dates - as upgrades for his set: 1892-S, 1894-O, 1898-S, 1901-O and the 1906-S. All wonderful coins, but the 03-S was the prize we were after. I'm very pleased to have won it for him.

My tastes are somewhat less exotic, as I prefer AU 58's. But it was a fun experience bidding on coins that I would never have imagined I would be bidding on.

If I had a quick $60K, I would have been the sole bidder of the complete Barber dime Proof Collection, which averaged approx. 66.5.

Regardless of how their last sale went, Legend Coins sure does get some of the best and most beautiful looking original high grade coins in both their auctions and their inventory. 98% of it is out of my price range, but still man if I ever win the Powerball - I know they will be getting a fair chunk of change from me!
