This is a friends coin I am posting. I find it interesting and am not sure what happened to it but I do not think it is PMD. He has had it for a long time.

what do the experts believe happened? rotated in the collar and struck twice? this is an area out of my expertise.

Thanks for any explanations! RK

Looks correct from what I can see. Here is an overlay of a 50 degree rotation:

Added:
Looking again the rotation for 50 degrees may not be an exact match, but it is close.

Thanks for your input coop!

Is this a common error or rare, and would it be worth his while to get it slabbed?

I have no idea if it is a $10 coin or more valuable.

I am betting that this coin is worth a heck of a lot more than $10!

I feel it would be worth grading. It is probably a $100+ coin. I searched heritage for a 1909 double struck, but it was an Indian cent in VG for Over $300. Nothing listed in the LWC. It is probably a high dollar coin if graded. You might see what other here think as well. They may have a better price in mind for your coin. I'll contact someone for his opinion.
Rest in Peace

According to Numismedia Fair Market Value, ad 1909 VDB BN graded F12 is worth just over $10. So....yeah, that one's got to be worth more.

It looks genuine to me. It might bring over $1000.

Appears genuine. I would get it slabbed ASAP. Could very well be a high dollar coin.

That coin is fascinating. Thanks for sharing. I find it interesting how the N in ONE was obliterated by the second strike.

Wow I love this coin ! It's worth way more than a hundred bucks. Fred Weinberg would be a good one to ask also.

The value in this error will come from the desirability of the date/variety and because the Lincoln series is so popular. Additionally, errors for this date/variety are quite rare as well, especially a major error such as this. I would not be surprised at $1000 or more.

Wonderful piece! Congrats.

I mentioned $100+ as a reason to get it slabbed. I had no idea of it value, but felt it was a coin to be graded. (Which I do not mention often to grade a coin.)
