Here's the deal. I have decided to author a book on the subjects we have talked about here recently. The general subject will be pocket change oddities, which are valuable and which are not. Which ones are easy to find and which ones are not. It will also discuss the minting process and will illustrate how all these come about. The center of attention, however, will be on pocket change - normal size coins that end up finding their way out of the mint one way or another, and can be found by searching through coins purchased at face value from the bank. The book will be somewhere between 200-300 pages and will be profusely illustrated. I am figuring somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 photographs.
I am going to let the crowd here give me the title to the book. Someone here will name this book, and the person who can reply with the title of the book I choose to use wins a signed, annotated, original proof draft copy of the book. In book production, these are the copies that collectors are after because they show the typos, annotations by authors and editors to change this or that, and other parts that might be removed from the book before it goes to print. Proofreaders and editors will all make notes and sign the book, so you'll end up with a book signed by at least a half dozen experts.
The final decision on the title is mine, and mine solely. I will not "favorite" anyone, I will simply pick the title that best works for the book, regardless of who comes up with it.
Simple rules:
1. One entry per person, unedited. Think before you post, because it's the only chance you get. 2. Read prior posts before placing yours, because if you post the same title as someone ahead of you, you automatically lose. 3. Deadline to post your title idea is midnight CDT, 30 September, 2007. No entries posted after that time will be considered.
Furthermore, and this is for everyone - if you would like to be considered as a contributor to the book (with your name in the credits), I will need pieces for examination and photography. A lot of what has been posted here in the past few months qualifies. Please contact me via email at cd@coppercoins.com if you would like to submit pieces for inclusion in the book. Naturally the more common the piece, the more likely I will already have one and won't need yours, but you never know.

Just to let everyone know, any examples of coins I use for the book will be returned to the owners in a timely fashion, but I MUST see the examples in hand, and I will be using ONLY my photography in the book. I cannot accept scans or photographs from contributors, because I need to have precise control over image size and quality, and need to be sure that what I am publishing is accurate information. The only way I can assess the oddity on any coin with 100% accuracy is to examine the coin myself.
I will pay return postage to anyone who sends pieces to me (with prior authorization), and will not charge any of the normal fees for attribution. Basically your postage to me is all you are out in helping with this project.
I will also be running a pre-publication first run sale on the books for contributors and people who read this forum. Although I have not come up with a final price for the book, it will be discounted for those here who want it.
