Out of boredom, I took on the project of photographing and uploading the photos of my Pre-Decimal type set to the CCF Gallery. :) I don't know too many people interested in such things, in reality, so I thought I'd share them with the forum here. I'm still missing seven pieces to it, so it isn't complete. It may never get completed, as the Melbourne Commemorative Florin is expensive. Anyway, here it is for your persuing enjoyment. http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...hp?album=643

Elle...
Apart from the Melbourne Centenary, what other coins are you missing from your Pre-Decimal type set?

To stick with the original way I numbered the files, so they'd come up in order in the photo album, I am missing these types:
16 1953-1954 threepence Elizabeth II (No Defender of the Faith)
25 1911-1936 Shilling George V
27 1949-1952 Shilling George VI 30 1910 Florin Edward VII 33 1934/35 Melbourne Jubilee
35 1951-1952 Florin George VI 37 1953-1954 Florin Elizabeth II

Nice job, Ellekitty. I really like those Shillings with the Ram's head. As you can probably tell by my avatar. Steve

G'day, Kitty wrote: "the Melbourne Commemorative Florin is expensive" - and indeed, it always was. It was an early example of NCLT, and was sold for 3 shillings. Which explains why you never see much evidence of circulation. Anyway, it's very pretty; it has a unique obverse; it's in all the reference books; but as it's NCLT, you could legitimately leave it out of a "coin" collection. So, you can now cross the most expensive item off your list of seven. Peter in Oz

ScottishMoney, thank you. :) It's always nice when someone appreciates a collection.
Peter, Oooh, that salves my conscience a tiny bit. I don't -have- to have it, but I think I still want it. Ah well, I'll win the lottery some day.
It is a beautiful coin. I was under the impression that the Obverse was the same used for coins from New Zealand, Fiji.. etc? Did you mean completely unique, or just unique to Australian coinage?

ElleKitty, I'll have a look through my spare Pre-Decimals & see if I can come up with any from your want list. They might be a bit beat up, but they'll at least fill a gap till something better comes along.
I'll post here what I manage to find for you.

G'day ElleKitty, that obverse was unique in terms of Australian coinage. I confess that I haven't sought comparisons to other countries. Ever since I fell in love with the Canadian 1935 silver dollar, I have wondered why Australia didn't put out a commemorative coin for the 25th year of KG5's illustrious reign. The Melbourne florin is a bit confused: the reverse legend reads "CENTENARY VICTORIA MELBOURNE 1934-35." Victoria is a state, and Melbourne is its capital city. Melbourne was settled in 1835. Victoria did not take that name until 1851, when it separated from NSW: prior to that it was the Port Phillip District of NSW, and was settled in 1834, at a place 410 km west of Melbourne. So, one so-called "coin" is attempting to commemorate two events, at different times and places. The significance of the horse & rider eludes me. But, it's certainly very pretty. Peter in Oz

Thank you muckeye! I'm still waiting to hear from Gary about whether or not he received the coins from the auction, and the handful or so that I added to it. I'm starting to feel concerned.

You're welcome ElleKitty. Some forum members both here on CCF and in Oz have been very generous to me, so this is another way of paying it forward. When I can I just enjoy helping others to get their collections together.
