These come up a lot while I'm searching for IHC's on ebay. Frankly, it's slightly annoying because there are so many listed; I guess I could just remove the seller from my search. But, does anyone know anything about these? Apparently people keep bidding on these. I really don't see how these would be collectible. And I love how every one of them is described as "RARE". They can't be rare if this guy has thousands of them!

I don't have anything against them, I just don't know anything about them, and why they are so popular.

Every date is a "rare" date on ebay, it seems.

I also get annoyed at the sheer mass of themed pre-packaged coin collections on ebay that always contain super-common date (and often cleaned/worn) older coins. They're gimmicky over-priced tat geared towards non-collectors.

I can't even begin to understand what connection this one is trying to imply between Robert E. Lee and an 1899 cent. That they're both American and existed in the same century?

The coin is essentially worthless, when people buy them they pay for the novelty of the cards.

Whatever tickles one's fancy.
I think the same thing about Beanie Babies or Pokémon cards.
