Poll Question
In 1964 Peace dollars were stuck and givin to mint employees. The mint later recalled them, and destroyed most, if not all, of them. There are rumors that people held on to these, and even sold them to a dealer. Currently, the PGCS has a $10000 reward out fore anyone who can show them a real 1964 Peace dollar. So, do they still exist?

Poll Choices
Yes, the 1964 Peace dollar does still exist
No, the 1964 Peace dollar does not still exist

I read somewhere that two were saved until 1970 when they were also destroyed. I've also read that there were some Peace dollars struck in clad in 1970 as test pieces in preparation for the Ike dollar. I would love to see one of those.

I had a dealer at a show recently tell me with "authority" that there was an example in Canada, since it was illegal to own in the US. As badly as I want one to exist, I do not think there are any left - or at least if there is, it'll never surface for fear of confiscation. There was a good article on this coin in a recent issue of Coinage.

It's nice to dream, but hard to imagine that one would not have surfaced by now.

I think a 64 Peace dollar would make a great plot for a third installment of one of those Nicholas Cage "National Treasure" movies.

I can picture the thing twirling up into the air over canyon or something and Nic Cage flying through the air after it in slow motion with his arm extended reaching to try to save it.

Clearly it was referenced by the cipher on page 47 in the book of secrets. Life-changing, indeed, for all of those who bought the (now illegal) Carr replicas.

I am not going to say one way or another as I cannot make an informed opinion. I just don't know. I just think it would be cool if one did exist; the government might have one secretly hidden in some secret vault near the secret magical doorway to the secret passageway to the secret room near the Earth's secret mantle.

I know somebody who owns one. I have seen it. He is in his late thirties so I doubt it will come out any time soon.

Are you sure that it's not a replica?

My opinion is that yes, they do exist. With well over 300,000 coins made, it would be a rather easy task to pocket a few. Mint employees and their friends knew that it was going to be snapped up and hoarded as a curiosity and thus creating an instant rarity, as did Congress, which is one reason why they put the kibosh on the project. I would wager that throughout history, a few mint employees have always had well-heeled and shady friends who can make it worth their while to satisfy their fetish for bright and shiny objects.

Trouble is, anyone showing it off in public would be arrested for retaining stolen government property. So I'd imagine that those who have the coins show them off perhaps once a month to their close friends in dark, secret rooms over a bottle of their favorite expensive white wine.

Probably do exist, but after what happened to the Langford 1933 Double Eagles, I doubt we will see one surface anytime soon and it won't be in the United States.
If PCGS is offering a reward of $10000, it's way too low and if I owned one there is NO WAY that I would trust an American-based TPG with it.

I think the whole thing where PCGS will give you $10,000 if you give them a 1964 D Peace dollar is complete crap. First of all, why would they do that? Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid about the govt., but it seems to me that it is a way to make you come out and say that you have a 1964 Peace dollar and the govt. will just take it from you.

10k$ won't do it.

Up it to a million and it might start rattling some safes open.
