Either this seller has real bank-rolled Morgan rolls or he is really smart. He has toners on the ends as they should be!

No way. I started 2 threads like this on similar fake Morgan roll sellers. It'll be entertaining to watch the price rise to at least 3K. Total scam.

I think those circular toned Morgans are album toning, not end roll toning.

This roll does seem a bit different and more intriguing than some other recent similar auctions. That said, the math still comes down to what you would (or ought to) pay for two AU/BU common date Morgans plus eighteen that might be anything. By any reasonable measure, that shouldn't come out to the $3K+ that these do seem to be fetching.

Of course it's a scam.

The Seller has been nailed previously for selling rolls that turned out to be not quite what they were claimed. In this case, past history is indicative of future performance!

The window paper wrappers are still around and can still be obtained. All it takes is a little aging, a few common BU coins from any coin show, a good made up story and a little bit of patience. They are turning a 500-600$ investment into a 3000$ ripoff.

His "gotcha" is if you open the roll you cannot return it.

There is no shortage of uninformed Buyers on ebay. As long as they are willing to pony up stupid money then the scams will continue.

In looking at this seller's other auctions I ran across this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1884-CC-BU-...em19f830e15b

I have never before seen a slabbed coin with the reverse on the front side of the slab. Can you request this? Or is this an indicator the slab has been cracked open and the coin possible switched?

I think most grading companies will put put whatever side of the coin the submitter wants exposed to the front of the slab. I see it more with varieties like 3 legged Buffalos than anything else.

It's a special request I would imagine.

You can request it. The owner wanted the toning in front on this one.

My mother gave me fifteen cents
To see the elephant jump the fence
He jumped so high he reached the sky
And didn't come down till the fourth of July

I'm eating my popcorn watching the clown bids roll in to pump up interest.

In the end I wonder whether any money changes hands.

wonder how he knows... None of these rolls have had anything older than a 1904 in them?
He either broke rolls or he didn't. No one would be able to open some but not all.

Gosh, there's enough of these that you'd think Morgan dollar bank rolls actually existed.

They didn't. At least, not back then.

There is a positive feedback on the sale of one of these Morgan rolls: "As described". For $1825 one buyer was happy. That works out to around $90 per coin, which is not unreasonable for a roll of high MS Morgans, if that's what the buyer judges them to be. He got free shipping, and considering that the seller accepts no roll returns under any circumstances, there is no penalty for opening it to verify what's inside. If there was an MS 1889-cc, or if the coins were all culls, the feedback would be different.

If a person set out to make rolls of pre 1921 MS Morgans using ebay BIN's it looks like $40 per coin unslabbed, or $50 per coin slabbed. So a roll needs to sell above $1000 to be very profitable.

I wouldn't touch that with Bill Gates money.
