Should be labeled "DOTS TISSUED". I think somebody sneezed on it.

1936-Dot-Cent-On-Ebay...-And-A-1936-Dot-Dollar?

Edit: funny how they picked the $175k value straight from J&M. Why not use the $275k from coinsandcanada?

"This can't be a legit dot cent. I don't know what TPG certified the dot cents but ICCS definitely didn't certify this one as a dot cent, he just stuck a label on the flip." [SlurExe97]

Many sellers on ebay stick a label on the flips, as ICCS refuses to acknowledge many things. Believe its because they subscribe to the old boys club mentality.

Besides the seller isn't advertising that the coin is one of the Pittman back room special dots are they.

"He even has a 1936 dot dollar. That thing didn't even exist in the first place. Only one cent, 10 cents, and 25 cents were made with the dot." [SlurExe97]

Are you 100% certain about this statement?

Up till a short time ago, the long and short denticles on the 1955 one cent didn't exist. Lots of things don't exist, until they are discovered.

Some people in the hobby just have a hard time admitting that they have been duped.

Pittman is most likely laughing from beyond the grave and still basking in the fact that he pulled one over on the naive Canadian coin collectors.

Nobody wants to admit that they have been grifted by a grifter.

I kind of know who Pittman is but I kind of don't, he had a 1936 Dot penny. Did he work at the mint or something? I just cant stop thinking how people like him were able to get the coins that he got.

"Nobody wants to admit that they have been grifted by a grifter " WOW!!
If the shoe fits!! I would think the " Fraud squad " would be all over the seller of the two lots in question if some "foolish Numismatist" actually bought and paid up for the two listings in question............... no wait there is the PayPal and ebay refund policy to keep everything in check and protect a "fool" from themselves. What a dotty concept! This is what happens when a seller on ebay does not use the right "tool" to properly research the listings they put up. It should be noted that the use of a wrong "tool" can be extremely harmful..............especially if the "tool" is meant to "fool" the unsuspecting. !!!! Coin Hunter what grade is the "RED DOT" ? Is it premium sticker quality and non disturbed gum ? !

I never met Pittman, but there are those about who did.

From what I have read. The person was from the U.S., made their way into the hobby circles of Canada and the U.S. and apparently worked at Eastman Kodak.

Read a diary journal entry that was from an attendee of the King Farouk sale (Egypt) that Pittman also attended. Person mentioned Pittman in his journal, stating that Pittman passed himself off as a Railroad Tycoon.

Would surmise that he knew the right people due to his affiliation with the hobby. He knew what to say and when to say it. Told people what they wanted to hear and was able to convince people to do certain things.

Would also surmise that Pittman's IQ was higher than the average persons at the time and most likely today as well.

To the best of my knowledge, Pittman never sold any of the mystery dot coins while he was alive. It was not money that he sought as gain, it was the thrill of convincing others that nothing was something.

The Pittman dot story has changed over the years, sometimes so much so that ear deafening warning bells should have gone off in the minds of all who followed it. But the need within some to believe in something other than their own mundane lives is so great, they have willingly muted all the warning signs.

Hats off to Pittman for achieving what he did.

Spp & PC...It's a more rare "red dot" variety. I would give it a grade of AP-DB (Almost Perfect Double Brown).

As far as being duped or picked off, it's happened to every dealer or collector around the world at least once. Be it lack of paying attention, lack of brains that day or just plain lack of experience. One bangs head on desk, hopefully learns and moves on.

Sadly I cannot bid on it as the seller says he 'may not' ship to the USA. Oh dear, oh my, so very sad.
