It is 6am here which is a perfect time to vent, sorry for the rant in advance

Was stalking this coin for a week. With 15 seconds to go I put in my max bid of $9 (current bid was $3.85) and mysteriously the listing instantly was over but it never said I got outbid. I didn't think a seller could end a listing with seconds to go in an auction.

Seems the seller didn't want to take a bath on this one and did what our modern western culture dictates, ITS ALL ABOUT ME. Here is a thought, pay the 2 bucks and protect yourself with a reserve price.

Listing here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12150179764...RK:MEBIDX:IT

What get's under my skin even more is the little tidbit at the end of the decription:

"I apologize for the pictures. As some of you know- it's very hard to take pics of coins.. Especially bronze coins. I assure you that this ancient roman bronze has amazing allure and eye appeal and is sure to please you. Coins of this type are common, but not common in this high grade. I paid $100 a couple years ago but just need a few extra dollars for Xmas this year.
Good luck bidding and God bless."

As a fellow believer, thanks for 'God blessing me" like its trendy slogan, but why don't you follow this little tidbit:

Jmaes 5:12 "But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation."

I really should start drinking decaf

It is listed as sold. Could it be that you bid did not go in?

Actually it says:

"This listing was ended by the seller because the item was sold", which means the seller ended the listing early and used the 'item was sold' reason when ebay asks you why you are ending the listing early.

This is what it normally says when the auctions goes to its normal completion time, "the bidding has ended on this item"

No you can read on top of the page that its been removed due the fact that the seller sold it already... very strange.

Edit: indeed Biancasdad - We were posting at the same time

Bottom line for me is the seller paid $100 for this coin and wasn't going to sell it for a few bucks. Was probably sitting at the computer with the end listing option open and ready to fire if no decent bids came in at the 10-15 second mark.

The Seller did not end the auction early as the item shows being sold to the highest bidder. (I believe there were 9 bids). The Seller did nothing wrong.

With your bid not being entered until almost the end of the auction (less than 15 seconds) YOU messed up. Anytime you place a bid with less than 15 seconds to go you are running a risk of the bid not getting entered. Lag times, Internet speed, multiple last minute bids being placed....all of these factors play in to it. The Internet is funny sometimes. ebay is funny sometimes.

Enter what you are willing to pay as your max bid with at least 30 seconds left in the auction. You can also use a snipe service to do it for you. Sometimes your gonna win, sometimes your gonna lose. This is one of those "lose" times.

http://offer.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.d...one_ViewLink This guy seems to have got it. I don't know ebay that well but can a buyer accept a bid and declare it the winner even if it's not the highest bid? If so it sure seems scam-able to me but I'm just a voice in the dark. Otherwise Jesus Helped him IMO

I disagree Westernsky.

I have sniped with 7 seconds every time without a problem for 3 years. I put my bid in at 15 seconds because I didn't want to take any chances. The moment I put my bid in the listing ended.

And as I said, it would say "bidding has ended" NOT 'seller ended the listing"

Going back and looking some more it looks like it was ended by the Seller about 1:30 before the end of the auction.

If you were watching the item, and had it up on your screen, the ending May have not yet updated. So, when you entered your last second bid the item would then refresh and show as "ended by the Seller".

The rules state the Seller can end an auction early but has to sell it to the high bidder. This is a bad rule in my opinion. My guess is now that the "high bidder" just happens to be his shill ID (or a good friend of his).

Sorry this happened to you.

You can always complain to ebay. They won't do anything but it might make you feel better.

Apology accepted, but thank for your advice and your uninformed attempt to shed light on MY SUPPOSED error

But that does clear it up for me why it instantly ended exactly as I bid

I agree with westernsky. It's almost an insurance policy for taking a chance at auctioning a gem for cheap. Dishonest as the day is long but I can imagine the seller saying "Watcha gonna do?" It's all optics and they are bad. Is there a block seller option? I'd love to block all the nefarious sellers.
Rest in Peace

I have many sellers excluded from my saved searches. Go to More Refinements/ seller/ exclude. I just copy & paste from another open tab.

i also suspect he sold it to himself. if that's the case take some satisfaction in knowing he lost his invested time and a little bit of money and gained nothing.

I am pretty sure it is a "she" as the other items for sale were women's clothes and high heel shoes, although you never know.

I get no satisfaction from his/her wasted time. I spent hours scouring ebay and I knew I would get a deal on this coin. It was the classic seller that would have very little exposure to ancient collector's.

I could taste it, I was frothing at the mouth as the seconds ticked down like a junkie in the gutter waiting for his fix
