Hello! Over the weekend I revived a EF-40 ish 1931 S Wheat penny as a gift. Now, I am wondering if, well, it's real. My father, who gave it to me, got it for only $60... And now I'm reading that people are selling them for hundreds! In fact, my Red Book says $115! Also, if it's real (Most likely) Should I get it graded? And if so, what company would be cheapest? Any help would be greatly apreciated!

As is always said Take the staples out first so as not to scratch the coin and then post close up obverse and reverse pics.

Can you get a close-up of the date and mint mark? Something looks fishy...

Looks ok to me. $60 is not unusual for that semi-key date in raw state. The RedBook prices can be very high.

I would also like to look at a closeup of the mint mark, it looks like it may have been added. Better close up photos would help.

I think it looks alright, and I'd probably pay about $60-$80 for it. I see no issues here, from what I can see on the photographs.

The 1931-S Lincoln Cent has come down some in the last few years. I have no problem believing that a raw one in this grade was only $60, but would still like a better look at the date and mint mark.

Just put it away for now. In that condition it should be real. Not many would bother making a fake worth that little. And as to sending it in for grading, might end up costing more than it's worth.

This is probably the most faked Lincoln Cent out there. I've seen dozens of fakes over the years. You need to post a close-up of the date/MM area if you want us to authenticate it.

I paid $60 for the one in my Wheat collection in about the same condition. I wouldn't be concerned over the price. As mentioned, the Red Book is HIGH retail. I never pay anywhere near those prices.

Nice looking coin. Wouldn't hurt to authenticate it if possible.

Looks ok to me. $60 is about right. Wouldn't waste the money to authenticate as I see no red flags.
