Q. David Bowers has written, "It is a normal and acceptable procedure to carefully 'dip' [a Morgan] to restore its brillance." Would you?

I think it looks beautiful the way it is. I wouldn't dip it. Just my opinion though.

Heavily toned obverse. You may not like what you find beneath that toning.

This may sound weird, but it actually has the correct sort of mint state surfaces (in a perverse way you could refer to this quality as "luster") that shows through the toning in hand, although it isn't evident in the photographs.

Do not dip. The toning is too dark, and too thick; you'd be flirting with disaster to try and remove it all.

So is somebody going to go out on a limb with a grade? Is there any reason why it shouldn't certify without any impairment?

I also say don't dip that one. Might be MS, but hard for me to tell. Not sure if slightly worn die or minimal wear. What the heck, MS63, cheek looks good.

I can't say I'm in love with the color, but I'm inclined to think it's original looking at the standoff near the date and right stars. So, yeah, 63-ish and original surfaces.

I can't tell how the luster is from those images. It might handle a dip well, but the light hairlines evident on the cheek scream "don't dip!" to me, I think it will look worse after.
