Hello! The other day a buddy of mine approved me with a 1909 P VBD penny in a PGCS case graded MS64. He was selling it to me for $50, and so I thought I should check my red ok. After checking my RedBook, which priced it at $30.... So, I know the Red Book is off, so I came here... Should I get it?

Pricing depends on whether it's BN, RB or RD....

Kind of a common coin. AND the Red Book is notorious for being over priced, not under. If it's listed as a $30 coin, $50 is really excessive. If he is a buddy of yours, be really careful of your not buddies.

Yeah, he came to me and said: hey, I got this coin the other day, it's yours for $50! He's not into coin collecting... Like at all, but he thought he could make a buck or two aparently

Or maybe he got ripped off and thinks it's worth that much?

FYI - the PCGS Price Guide lists 1909 VBD RB at $75 but don't take that as gospel

First do you mean PCGS or PGCS? Value is between $37.50 and $82.50. Check ebay sold values for an idea.

$50 is about $15 heavy for this coin. Just for the fun of it, look at the RTY in LIBERTY. If you see it doubled to the East, scarf the coin at whatever price you can.

I would spend $30 max for a raw RB 1909 VDB in that condition but since it is in a slabe I think it would be valued a little more. I think if you paid $35 for it, that would be a fair price. My question though is it more red than brown? In the end though $50 sounds like he is asking to much.
