I'm so excited, I was just able to purchase a book I never thought I'd have a chance to own. I just went to my PO Box to find it had arrived, I opened it a few minutes ago.

An original 1921 Henry Chapman auction catalogue of John Story Jenks collection sale with separate photo plates loose in a binder, though my copy has been rebound, the prices realized are hand written beside each lot by an attendee at the auction, along with some notes on a few lots sold, slipped in on little scraps of paper. The last copy I saw of this catalogue, sold at a Kolbe and Fanning auction for over $2800! Mine is not as nice, nor is it worth that much, but still the highlight of my numismatic library so far, and the most I've ever paid for a book.

Here is a link to a current upcoming sale in January 2015 that has a similar copy (Ex - Harry W. Bass collection) up for grabs (as of this posting it's already bid to $1700.00) Lot 247 Sale 138:

John W. Adams rates this sale an A+: "Henry Chapman's magnum opus. Superb coins of the world plus U.S. all series, all expertly described." The most famous of the Chapman sales and one of the most renowned American coin auction ever held. 7302 lots; 42 superb photographic plates of coins and medals."

Kevin Flynn has even wrote a book about John Story Jenks calling him one of America's greatest coin collectors.

Pictures to come soon!

Excellent stuff westcoin! Happy Christmas and a wonderful buy!

As for me, I'm pleased with a more modest find:

Early-Christmas-Present-Just-Arrived!

The catalogue for a sale I've been looking for for a while now. I did find a copy being sold with Part I for over £100, but I don't need the first part so it would have been a bit of a waste as well as expensive.

Then by chance I found the above listed with five other sales catalogues on ebay. At under £10 for the lot it was a must have purchase! Only downside? I have to wait until Christmas day before I can read them!

Gotta love a bit of numismatic literature!

Nice on your find too Tom! Always great getting a book we've been looking for for a long time! I too saw all the Glendining auction catalog postings this past month, just not a set I'm going after now. Chapman's on the other hand, well, we will see, they get pretty expensive, thankfully I've knocked one of the keys out on my second Chapman catalog purchase.
