Here are the two side by side:
1988-D-LMC-RDV?
The AMER also look different from the 005 & 006
The 005 "M is rounded on the uprights and the 006 are flat. I can't tell from your images which you have?

Well I heard somewhere "I'm no expert", but I'll go out on the limb and say RDV-006. Please wait for experts to confirm.

Value pending confirmation and a bit more research as I've yet to sell any. Thanks, Doug.

It looks like a RDV005 from what I can see.
1. The RDV 006 dies were used to finish the year run, so they should show less die wear on the FG. The example is showing die wear.
2. Note the width of the left leg of the "A" on AMERICA looks narrow. The RDV 006 "A" is wider on this leg, making the center smaller than
the RDV 005. (Note the 2nd example I posted above.) Looks like circulation flattened the top of the device removing the roundness usually
seen on the RDV 005.
3. The top of the "G" is vertical with the east edge of the bottom part of the "G" like the RDV 005 has.

This one was not an easy call. I had to do some looking even closer than normal to ID this one. But it looks like a RDV 005 to me.

Thank you coop for making the effort. I found one awhile back so I know what to look for and this one had me on the fence. I don't feel so bad now knowing you had to scratch your head too

Every time we learn something new, we are gaining knowledge of the hobby. I guess the lesson learned here is to look closer at the devices and see what they tell us. Whether a doubled die, RPM, OM or a different year variety, it helps us see that the information is there, you just have to look closer to find out what it is saying.

The interesting thing on this coin is that USA appears flat which is typical to the 006. But I've had numbers of 005s that look like John's specimen and I've paused and paused trying to confirm. I've yet to find this transitional variety. It's proven quite elusive despite Wexler's suggested probabilities.

This rdv might be the final straw. Next time I see one come up, I'm switching to Pokémon or baseball cards. Charizard, Pikachu, Ruth and Mantle are easy to tell apart. Thanks, Doug.
