I sold this coin to somebody in the USA and he has returned the coin to me and declared, that it is a fake. The coin has wear and marks from possible circulation and it is not a high value coin. Therefore it makes little sense to me to make fakes of such a coin. Any opinions or suggestions on that one and how can I get it verified ? Is it worth the while or just leave it alone?

Its a dead ringer for Y# 10t China Szechuan Province. With more than 300,000,000 minted it would not make sense to have a counterfeit. However, with a small value, refund his money and ask him why it is counterfeit. Not worth outside party grading. I am just an amateur though. Been trying to identify similar coins handed down through the family. Has nothing to do with Yunnan.

Not worth to certify a coin like that. And do as 'hokiestenn' suggested, refund but ask why he considers it fake.

I'm very much an amateur as well, hope it's not to obvious though :-) The Yunnan-Szechuan is the result of hours on the internet trying to identify a coin I can't even read :-) so thanks a lot for the correction. Just to keep my collection record in order, what would be the correct 'title' for this coin? Is at least the year correct? The buyers reason was (believe or not) : Wrong patina.... I sold the item actually on ebay with the very same picture for about US$35 after some intense bidding but nobody told me or reminded me that there is no 'Yunnan'.

There actually is a Yunnan-Szechuan similar coin but it has a different mint mark than your coin. Yours has the Szechuan mint mark. The money you received would be about in line for the rarer Yunnan-Szechuan 10 Cash Coin. Chances are that if was advertised as Yunnan-Szechuan and the customer bid accordingly, he was disappointed in the mint mark. Consider it an honest mistake.

I agree with that. I think we both made a mistake . Just for my records : What is the correct Krause catalog number for my coin?

This is what a Yunnan-Sichuan 10 cash coin is supposed to look like. There are counterfeits of Sichuan 10 cash coins despite low value.

I definitely put the wrong text/specifications when I placed the coin at ebaysince obviously my coin is Sichuan, not Yunnan-Sichuan. Now,my next question is : How to determine that it is a fake or not? What are the main indicators that it might be a fake?
