I'm looking for opinions on this coin. I'm not sure how to describe the issue. On the reverse of the coin it is almost as if the centre of the coin is depressed but the printing is unaffected. On the obverse, there is a ridge almost mirroring the outline of the King's face.

The details on the coins are good.

Any thoughts or opinions as to what is going on here would be appreciated. Was it part of the minting process of PMD?

It seems to be ghosting. The planchet for the silver 5 cents is thin, and with successive strikes, a vague silhouette from the reverse forms on the obverse and vice versa.

There is no real premium here, it's much like the old U.K. pennies.
But ya never know, I'm sure there are ghost fans.

I think that it's highly collectable and quite unusual.

This is so different from my silvers with repeated die clashes. If they call it ghosting, then that's fine with me.

It's a high grade 5 cent silver.. and very desirable to me. Great find..!!

Just going by previous posts I've seen in the past, but seems to be a bit of (PIDT) progressive indirect design transfer (aka ghosting) going on. Thanks, Doug.

I hadn't heard of ghosting but it sure looks like that is the explanation. Thanks for the information and to Halo1st for the great link.

Here is another example of ghosting... certainly prevalent on George V 1 penny strikes from Great Britain. It is from the flow of metal, and more metal is required in the obverse dies, than the reverse (remember that the dies are incuse)... you see ghosts all the time on coins struck through caps and blank planchets too (uniface coins).
