Reardon - That specific reference to 1982 cents could possibly be the nice 1982 DDO that has been known since its release in 1982. These too are scarce...and, incidently, are on large date copper 1982P cents.

I'd love to tell you but I never looked to determine that and I just mailed it off to Chuck. I guess he will have to tell us when he receives it. Richard

The relative rarity of this coin will depend on which version of the 1982 cent this is. In any case, I haven't seen it listed anywhere either and doubling of this magnitude should have been hard to miss. I suspect , although there is no way to be sure that this will be as good as the 1983 DDR if not much better. It shows that great discoveries can still be made. I know of 2 examples of a 1972 S business strike Lincoln DDO that wasnt discovered until I found the first one in 1998. The point is...don't just search for the ones we know about. Check out the entire coin. EVERY TIME! You never know what might turn up! PS: I checked all my 1982 cents and I don't have one:-( BOO HOO )

One thing that coppercoins said has me thinking. Since the 1983 DDR is so well known, a new 1982 DDR with that kind of serious doubling might be an easy coin to promote. As for getting excited:-) To nuts like me, I won't speak for Chuck, a new find is like finding buried treasure. The only thing that makes it better is if you get to discover it yourself. For the folks here, the priviledge comes in having been able to see some pictures of the coin for the first time anywhere. (That we know of) Have Fun, Bill

WOW, that is the first time I have actually seen someone here post a real double die asking if it was a double die. When you posted the second set of pics, I was thinking "Those are split serifs!@&?!" Most of the the time it is just mechanical doubling/die deterioration junk but in this case Ziggy

Chuck thanks for the work on this. the photos are great! Just out of curiosity what did you give for a grade on this? I never really looked at it for that and once I found out that it was something special I was in too much of a hurry to get it to you to really think about anything else! thanks Richard

It's a conservative AU55 red and brown. I would give it a value of $750-$1000, but I wouldn't be surprised if you are offered $2000 for it. In fact, I already have an offer that high for it from someone I know that I called this morning.
