I'm not sure what kind of writing this is, but it looks like it could be Arabic. Anyone know what this is? 21mm - 23mm.

Doubt it's Arabic, looks like Indian script.

Here is another that is from the same group, although I don't know if it has any relationship to the first one. Again, I have no idea what this is or which way is up. 17mm.

Going on that, this is what I came up with on the first coin: India. Independent Kingdoms. Maratha Confederacy. Chatrapti Shivaji Bhondale 1630 - 1680 A.D. Copper Paisa (ND).

Anyone know if that is correct?

Still working on the second one.

Yes Thryan9, the first Copper coin is from Maratha Dynasty in India. 1630-1680 AD. In local script, it reads :"Chhatrapati" - The honourable king. Shivajiraje Bhonsale. This is not a very rare coin.
The gold coin issued by the same king is very very rare. Although 100000 coins were issued, the rival Mughal king Aurangjeb managed to collect most of them and melt those, aftr Shivaji's death! That was called "HON"
