I guess we will have to take his word about it being a doubled die without an image to back up the story. Looks like a Wexler listing. I did find a listing on this site:

It appears to have The finders name on it, so that must be it.

How do you feel about it being a $500-$1000 coin? Is that an accurate assessment?

I know I would not pay that much for it. Note on the slab FSB. (Full Split Bands) These are very common on the Roosies'. So I don't see that adding a premium like you would expect a Mercury dime? There are a lot of other doubled dies I would consider before buying this one for that price. This is probably the first example I could think of showing doubling close to the outside of the bust area. I always add that Machine Doubling on the outside edge of the bust is usually MD. Although this is not exactly on the outside edge, but very close.

If there's a 1964-D 10¢ WDDO-001 how can this 002 be a discovery?

001 and 002 are two completely different DDOs

This new article shows how strong the doubling is, wow. Makes me wonder how many were melted during the great silver dump in 1979/80? I remember sending many bags of dimes and quarters off to the bullion buyers, when I worked for a couple of different dealers back then.
