When you are paying for goods at the store with cash and you make sure you stand in a strategic spot so you can see the coins in the cash drawer in case you spot something worth asking for....

I have actually nabbed many a Wheat cent as well as silver and impaired proofs this way.

You keep getting duplicates and closely scrutinize for possible variety. Even after upgrading the coins - you still keep hold of them!

My fiancée has become accustomed to handing over cash and coins when we are shopping, so I can inspect them for anything odd/rare/collector-worthy, etc. One time she did this, some lady at the grocery store started criticizing me for what she thought was my controlling the purse strings. I explained what I was doing, though I am pretty sure this just served to confuse her even more.

(Sigh) That's too bad. I have to say, it's is completely different when my husband hands over the change to me.

When you buy a tablet and the first app you get is a simple coin collection tracker and fill in your ATB collection so you can find the ones you are still missing that have been released.

Really, I have nothing else to do with the thing except read books on it.

When you're working the concession stand at a middle school basketball game and at the first break you look for interesting serial numbers on all the bills, and at the second break you look through all the change. Best find? 1961 Washington quarter.

You tip your paper boy, postman, and hair stylist with collectible loonies/twoonies and try to get them interested in the history/background and even the value of the coin, when you know darn well all they "really" want is the "Money!"

For coin roll hunters: when you walk into your bank and the teller(s) know what you want already.

You have been asked, more times than you can count, by a cashier, "Is there something wrong? Did I give you the right change?". As you stand there examining every coin you just received in change.
