Torgemco

could you please post a more detailed REVERSE image of the FIRST 1947 Blunt seven you posted above?
I thought these were 2 coins. But wrong I am.
the following images speaks volumes in how a picture can be misleading.
My first impression of the reverse in my mind indicated this coin might be a forgery.
Why?
because if you look at the 4 the bar from noon to 7 appears to be straight. ( a marker in some forgeries)
only by comparing both posted images from the OP, did I notice that these are not 2, but one and the same coin.
the image below shows the 2 images from the OP next to each other. the other images shows the subject coin compared with 5 certified coins.
do you guys also see one 4 different in one picture?

Certainly appears to be a genuine EF40 1947 Blunt 7. The counterfeits that I have seen (the Lebanon stuff from the 1970's era ) all have a washed out and quite grainy appearance. Almost as if they were sandblasted (cast silver ?). The other tell tale diagnostic of these mid east counterfeits was that they were all (1945,47,48) slightly rotated (5-10 degrees out). The OP's coin also features something that is almost certainly a genuine characteristic ( as shown in 47P7 coin pix as well), that is the reverse rim of any genuine 1947 (Blunt or Pointed) I have ever seen always shows either roughness or some raised "railroad rim" characteristics. Yet to see one without it ! Hope this helps. I would not worry about the OP's coin!

I've given up on judging grade or authenticity from scans. I see what you mean about the straight 4 but here's both dates side by side. Hard to believe it's the same coin.

well, I have no doubt that it is the same coin. I believe the images demonstrate clearly that it is not always easy to distinguish between images, based on uploaded pictures, unless they are taken under the same lighting circumstances, distance and settings.
First thing I saw was the straight line in the 4. And, as I said, that changed very fast when I noticed that both coins actually are one and the same.
Pacific, I have to check my P7s now.

Kbb, even on your images the 9s appear different.
I am sure the coin is good and the apparent differences are due to scanning or lighting issues.

There are a few other differences in these pictures. But these are authentic and refer to the high-low, straight and tilted 7s. perhaps a subject for another topic if someone wishes to start it.
