Very nice! Mintage of only 4000 unless it's a proof with a mintage of 625. If it's not a 3CN then the above mintages would be totally, totally wrong.

Prethen is turning! That's it. Turn in your 3CN card and send your coins to me (including the silver 3 cent one). Very nice, it's a proof, right?

Yes...it's a Proof. Actually, the business strike is much rarer and much more expensive.
It's in an older NGC holder, before they graded coins as Cameo. It's Proof 65.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the mirrors on this coin are pretty deep. This one is truly deserving of a Gem grade.

athrene it is a 3 cent silver when you see the 3CN he is telling you that a coin is a 3 cent piece copper/nickel.
The 3 cent Silver started in 1851 and was minted until 1873 and was minted for 9 years during the first 9 years of the 3CN (Cooper Nickel) with 3 Varieties, Varietie1, Varietie2, and Varietie3.
i did not see any one answer your question so I thought I might try an help, If someone else did and I missed it Sorry. This piece has a mintage of 4,625 for business strike and 625 for Proof.
Prethen that is Amazing!

I believe your 4625 figure included the Proofs...business strikes I think were only 4000.

I have wondered why they kept striking these, including small numbers apparently for circulation after the debut of the CN in 1865? Was it some political thing to keep silver in that denomination or what? Similarly the Half Dimes were also struck until 1873, when the Nickel debuted in 1866. They make for interesting collectibles, and 1873 is one of the best years to have a type set of coinage of, that is if you have the $$$ to buy everything that was made that year.

Nice coin!! I love my 3CN but can sure appreciate beautiful coins of all types. Didn't they use to call this little guys "fish scales?"

I've only got one of these (AU-50)and am always on the look-out for more. You absolutely have to hold one in your hand to appreciate how small and delicate they really are. It's no wonder that strikes are often problematic, and finding a really nice example is difficult.
