Gold Plated Cnd Pennies - Coin Community Forum

denny7000 Pillar of the Community Canada 1018 Posts	Posted 12/25/2014 10:38 am About a year ago I found some gold coloured pennies while crh some rolls from a local bank. I thought my eyes were tired or my lighting was going wonky. I have a relative who has access to an electron scanner and he gave me a read out on the pennies and they have indeed been 10k gold plated. I have found about a dozen , all different years all the same condition. I have also found 2 american pennies like this. Has anyone else found/seen pennies like this. Any ideas as to who or why? I read on here some one worked for a company and they plated something or other, when the job was done there was extra gold in the system, and he would plate coins in his pocket. denny7000 Pillar of the Community Canada 1018 Posts	Posted 12/25/2014 11:22 am Someone suggested a similar story, that maybe a plater was using the pennies for testing his colour before doing a job as gold plating adheres to copper well, then chucking them into circulation. I was just wondering if anyone else had found any and where they are located. They aren't valuable but real cool to look at amongst my other coloured/toned pennies. Report this Post to the Staff

They are all over the internet and I have seen them in all denominations. Somebody paid I think it was $10 in an auction for a chrome one the other day. In this case, I think he is being pretty up front about what the coins are. They wouldn't be very valuable as the amount of gold is minimal but they are great conversation starter. One of my coworkers here in BC also found one in his pocket change.
