Based on the photos I say it does not have BD. I say if you can pay $100 or less than your good.

I see no green spots. What makes you suspect it might have BD?

Oh just a primordial fear with Roman copper and bronze coins.

Excellent style and beautiful patination. It has every indication that a bit o' careful conservation would improve it somewhat. Not too much cleaning ! Just a bit to even out the fields.
I notice you have a Rome mint attribution. Yours or sellers ?
The coin looks amazingly similar to semi cleaned ancients sold out of Spain by 'Lucernae'.
If that is the source I would bet money it is a 'Hispania' issue. The provincial mints in Spain were closed under Claudius and the few that remained open issued Imperial coinage. The portrait while first rate has a few charecteristics I associate with Spain. I could be wrong ....... but I have my suspicions

Not BD, just very hard to remove encrustation., that may have fused into the surface of the coin.

It is coins that present, such as this one does, that some may be tempted to tool off some of that hard encrustation, especially around the lettering.

I know I don't the professional museum skill to do this.

No tools ! Tools are for extreme cases and this coin is anything but !
A bath in acetone to remove any soluble oils and then repeated baths in DW should soften the whitish surfaces.
A quick brass brushing or a toothbrush will do the rest.

If needed a bamboo skewer can be used to rub crevasses.
Metal tools are for brave souls
I am a natural born chicken !

@ FR Yes that is the sellers attribution. Just for curiosity what are some characteristics that coins minted in Hispania have compared to Rome or Lugdunum.

The first thing I notice is the lower tip of the bust.
It is common for Hispania issues to run right off the flan.
Two is the 'good hair' day that Claudius is showing ! For some reason the Spain coins seem to have excellent styling of the hair
(A cultural anomaly perhaps ?)
Lastly most Rome issues (not all) seem to portray Claudius as he actually was. A not very good looking fellow who drooled on himself. This was the result of a series of misfortunes that he suffered in childhood. He got the reputation of being an idiot because he actually looked like one not because he was one !
The Spanish coins often have a very handsome fellow looking much more like his "hero" brother Germanicus.
It may be a Rome issue. But I am inclined to think not.

If I were in the market for a Claudius I would give it some serious consideration.
What is the ask ?
$100 would be okay by me.

Very Interesting. Yes Claudius was a bit of a train wreck, his own grandmother( Livia) hired a mule driver to "tutor" him and set him straight.

You better grab it before I find it !
Some of the best deals I have found have been around Christmas. This is a steal at that price. Tomorrow morning I will be sniffing about myself.

July is also a great time to buy ! While everyone is at the beach I have gotten more than a few steals.
