Playing around with my new USB microscope I thought I would post some picks of this wheaty. Looked to me like some damage but it was interesting the way it seemed to be delaminating.

It's got a good shot at being a ragged planchet.

Also, no sign of damage on the reverse.

Planchet flaw or a major lamination. Cool error though!

I agree. A lamination. It looks like it was there during the strike but broke away somewhere down the line. Note how straight the edge of the coin is? The collar shapped the planchet fully and then fell off the coin.

Very interesting.

I looked at the pics yesterday and found this one to be a puzzler. Because the coin is worn, I kind of figured it had to have taken a hit.

I would have written it off as damage but the fsct that it looks like there is a rim beneath the chip. Odd.
