Since I originally found this amazing CCF community by wanting to find some answers out about my Statehood Quarters PNCs (and thus they were the subject of my very first post), I thought it fitting to create this thread dedicated to PNCs (Philatelic Numismatic Covers) based on poll results in the U.S. Commemoratives forum conducted by rggoodie: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...IC_ID=193331Anyway, to kick things off, I'll recap my experience: I wanted general info on the US Statehood Quarters PNCs that I had been collecting over the years and to get some advice on whether or not to open the OGP (I had kept them sealed in their cardboard mailers). The general consensus was that 1) I overpaid for these things by buying from the mint. Oh well. And 2) I should open them if I wasn't going to sell. So I did. Then I wanted a nice way to display them so they weren't tucked in a shoe box under my bed. I ended up with the following:    Those pictures show my Presidential $1 PNCs, but it's exactly the same setup for my Statehood Quarter PNCs. My main observation on this subject is that it's generally much, much cheaper to buy PNCs on the secondary market. I've been able to fill in holes for a fraction of the original selling price at the US Mint. Anyway, this thread is dedicated to discussion, ideas, questions, and of course pictures(!) of and about PNCs (also called First Day Coin Covers (FDCC)). Have at it! |

I collect mostly Australian PNCs but have some others from around the world.
I find them interesting and there are some that have special meaning (remembrance day - Victoria cross etc.)

@GR58, Thanks! I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. And yes, they are Lighthouse. I bought two albums to hold the 56 Statehood/Territory FDCCs, and it appears that each will hold about 16 full pages comfortably.
When I bought them I was hoping for more of a Whitman-esque feel to the dust case and the album itself instead of padded leatherette/vinyl (or whatever it is). Still, I'm happy with the result.

I realize that I am bumping a very old thread, but I always intended to participate in this thread when it was originally active by presenting PNCs from my collection, so rather than start a new thread... Over the years, I have gathered quite an assortment of PNCs/Coin Covers. I was attracted to those that I purchased because they were nice supplements to one or more of my core commemorative coin/medal collections. Just about all of them were purchased on the secondary market at attractive prices, though at least half of the complete set of Statehood Quarter covers I own was purchased directly from the US Mint. I hope to post at least one cover a day for the next few weeks. Maybe the new posts will encourage others to post their covers as well! For tonight, here's the first of several I have for the 1994 World Cup tournament hosted by the United States. It's a first day cover (FDC) with the commemorative half dollar struck by the US Mint. Here's another commemorative coin cover marking the 1994 World Cup. As with the cover I posted yesterday, it includes an uncirculated example of the US 1994 World Cup half dollar commemorative coin. This is an event cover vs. first day cover. It was postmarked on the day of the Championship Game held in Los Angeles, CA. Brazil defeated Italy in the game 3-2 via penalty kicks after the regulation game ended 0-0.   Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. All rights reserved.

Back in 1993, the Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM) issued a commemorative silver dollar to recognize the 100th anniversary of hockey's Stanley Cup. In addition to the standalone coin, Canada Post (CP) collaborated with the RCM to issue a PNC with CP's 43-cent commemorative Stanley Cup stamp. The postmark of April 16, 1993 represents the first day of issue for the stamp. The Montreal Canadiens won the 1993 Stanley Cup, defeating the Los Angeles Kings four games to one; the championship was the 24th for Montreal. 1993 marked the last time a National Hockey League (NHL) team from Canada won the Stanley Cup. The last Canadian team to reach the Cup finals was the Vancouver Canucks in 2011; they fell to the Boston Bruins in seven games.   Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. Here's another from Canada... In 2012, to mark the 100th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic, the Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM) released several commemorative coins. It collaborated with Canada Post (CP) on a pair of commemorative products, including the PNC shown below. The PNC features a colorized (colourized) copper-nickel 25-cent coin and Canada's international rate stamp ($1.80); it was postmarked on April 5, 2012 (the first day of issue for the stamp), the Titanic sunk in the early morning of April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg on April 14th. The cover also included an insert that contained additional information about the PNC's coin and stamp; images of the insert card are included below. Here is the first of two covers that I have that pairs a coin from the 1995-1996 Atlanta Olympics commemorative coin program struck by the US Mint with two US stamps - one released by the United States Post Office Department in 1932 and one by the United States Postal Service (USPS) in 1996. (Note: USPS is the name given to the Post Office after it was reorganized in 1970-71 and became independent vs. a Cabinet department.) The coin first day cover (FDC) was produced and sold by Fleetwood as a licensee of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC); it was postmarked on July 19, 1996 which was the first day of issue for the 32-cent Olympics Centennial stamp and the opening day of the 1996 Games. The coin is referred to as the "High Jump" silver dollar and was one of four silver dollars released in 1996; four silver dollars were also issued in 1995. So far, I've only seen the "High Jump" dollar in an official USOC PNC, but the other dollar coins may also have been issued in USOC coin covers. Tomorrow, I'll present a similarly-styled cover with a half dollar from the Atlanta Olympics.   Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. All rights reserved.
