Although I'm new I'm starting to get the "feel" for coins. Silver I can tell right off by looking at it. I have also found the ping test, the sound of gold and silver, to be exceptionally accurate. I think Ive come a long way when it comes to grading and picking out my own coins based on sight and gut.

Whats left, and theres a lot left, I defer to all the books, magazines, websights, Ive purused for hours a day. Hours upon hours Ive really applied myself.

But strangely its the sound of the metals I trust most. And the look, the light shining off them.

Thanks to the experienced guys who have made themselves available and have provided so much input. This all is very overwhelming at first and nobody ever stops learning. And I like to think Ive learned enough to not make my own mistakes.

Thanks again.......Rich

That's awesome Rich. Like most things, if you apply yourself and are eager to learn, you'll become an expert in something relatively quick. I loved to see your interest in numismatics thus far, both with taking chances and being cautious. It is wise to do research before spending money, but sometimes you need to spend to learn, as we all have come to realize. Keep it up friend, and looking forward to seeing your personal growth in the hobby!
