Hi All, there might already be a thread on this, apologies if there is. Was reading that the effigy of QEII is changing on British coins from 2015 on wards. Will Australia follow this change or continue with the one we have?

It doesn't have to by law, but traditionally, it does.

The wording of that article, and of the Royal Mint press release it is based on, implies the portrait will be changed sometime next year. But it would be odd indeed for the portrait to actually change midway through a year, or for mint set coins to have a different portrait to circulation coins of the same date, so I'm assuming they will actually use it only on 2016-dated coins.

The RAM is already selling 2015 coins with no change in portrait, and they have issued no press release about any.

Will any of our Pacific neighbours be adopting the new portrait? Would be interesting if Perth strikes coins for some countries with the old portrait and coins for others with the new portrait.

There is an article about it in the latest C & B Magazine which states that the new portrait will appear on 2015 circulating coins and some of the new commemoratives. So some 2015 coins will have the old portrait and some will have the new.

Perhaps the RAM will wait until the 2016 coins to change the portrait (and perhaps retire the 5c coin while they are at it)
