Hi Guys,

I won two of these coins in a lot recently and I'm struggling to place them! They have the pointed star which made me go directly to the Bengal Presidency but I've hit a dead-end.

The coin weighs in at the full 11.6g and is 29mm across. It has an oblique milled edge as well. Apologies for the low quality images, my camera is AWOL.

The mintmark was already in use before the British took control. Could be a Mughal issue dated only by regnal year '2'.

Thanks for the reply Medieval. The holder had Shah Alam II as the ruler but I can't honestly see his name on the coin. I agree it doesn't look like a British era coin. What I find really interesting is that its milled. Until I received this coin, I didn't think the Mughal Empire produced milled coinage!

They didn't. Currently more inclined to believe this is a copy/reproduction/fantasy of some sort.
