So I just had cracked open a box of un-sorted, 1980-1999 Canadian quarters when I stumbled upon this oddity....
Ive seen some of these "errors" occur as PMD, but I have never seen so many questionable features on the same coin...it leads me to believe it is a mismatched planchet, never meant to be a 25 cent coin.
-First off, the coin has a completely smooth edge, with absolutely no trace of there ever being any reeding...
-there seems to be numerous Cuds along the rim of the coin, that under loupe do not seem to be PMD as the denticles follow the Cud
-there seems to be a chrome issue, or a general coating problem. The coin is displaying a golden colour..
-coin is too light...digital scale proves it to be 0.37g shy of mark
-diamerter is smaller than a quarter of the same year

Im not sure exactly what is going on with this quarter dollar buy any ideas would be appreciated!!

I don't see this as being an error.

A coin with a smooth edge, smaller diameter, and thicker than normal is either a Dryer Coin or a spooned coin. PMD.
Those aren't Cuds, they are PMD from being hit.
Canadian circulation quarters were solid nickel from 1968 to 2000. No plating was used.
It looks corroded so that might account for the weight difference.

I conclude PMD. Not an error.

Industrial arts project.
PMD - Rim could have been pounded,
I've seen rings made like that.
Less metal, acid job then pounded.
