An amateur treasure hunter could be in line to receive part of a £1 million windfall after unearthing a hoard of rare Anglo Saxon coins in a Christmas dig.

The 5,251 silver coins, which are more than 1,000 years old, were found in a farmer's field near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire.

That's US$300/coin at retail; is that reasonable?

I do love to imagine the stories behind these hoards of coins. Apparently there was a mint nearby in Anglo-Saxon times so that might explain why this hoard was buried in that location, but it makes you wonder what happened to the owner. Why did they never return?

I wonder how many of these hoards are left undiscovered in Britain.......

Can these coins be worth more due to their origin or pedigree?

i would think so if you ask me. It would be like if someone was selling elton john's guitar its a guitar but because it was elton john its worth more so I would assume its the same thing for these coins
