If you were to buy one of these three, which would it be, and why? Option 1: 1941-D, MS-65 FS http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/21609669/Option 2: 1945-D MS-66 http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/30315313/Option 3: 1946-D MS-65 FS http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/15558568/The seller is selling each for $22 shipped ( or $52 for all 3). I can include pictures, but they're all blast white & stunning, which I'm sure most of you would guess by the grades. I figured these links etc would be enough, but if you all start posting the , I'll be happy to oblige. What should I consider here? I was looking at the cert verification pages and considering the 1945-D due to it being a War Nickel and the highest grade. The others are Full Steps though. Sort of new and would be curious to see what the community has to say. Feel free to suggest which you would take, or rank them in your order of best to worst purchase. Thanks

What we're dealing with here today are three coins of different dates. The question is, are you a date set collector, or are you also a variety collector? Or do you just like to own a flock of nickels at high grades just because you like them? If so, do you usually aim for 65 or 66?
I think the answer would be obvious if you identify yourself as one of the three mentioned above.

I'm really partial to War Nickels so that eliminates the first and last choices which normally would be recommended because of their FS designations. Get the War Nick! But, if buying strictly on value for the dollar then it appears the 1946-D in 65FS has the highest value.

Well I have put together a set of Jefferson (dates & mm) already. These would be going toward a type set. Sure I already have both war and normal Jeffersons I could use for that, but high grade is better obviously and for 20 bucks its not breaking the bank.
So my goal is to add something of high grade to the type set.
BH1964, I know how you feel. I might make an offer for two of them. Which would help with the type set, since I'd have 2 of pretty high grade.

All of them have appeal, but I'd get the War Nickel. That said, I'm pretty sure I'd opt to get something from the LCS though and expect to pay less (non-certified of course).

#2 because it is a War Nickel and I like them. #3 because it has FS and a low pop. John1

I like them all, but feel the price is a bit steep. Generally, as far as nickels like that go, they are plentiful, and can be had for about half the PCGS guide value. Maybe do a recent sold search on ebay and see what they are going for.

Ed, They seemed to be going anywhere from around 15-35, with many in the 22-25 range.
I made him an offer for the 45 & 46 nickels for $35 shipped and he accepted. I'm happy with it as was he. Thanks everyone. Maybe I'll post pics when I get them.

Quote: I would have done all 3. I agree if the seller is offering you a bundle deal. If you buy each coin separately on ebay or wherever for $4 less but have to pay $4 shipping on each one you are back where you started.

Good to know, personally I wouldn't want to sell the third coin I didn't want, so that's why I didn't get all 3.

War Nickels are not hard to find in PCGS MS66FS or MS67. I would seek one of these out for the type.

Hey everyone. They arrived today. I tore open the package and my jaw dropped. I am really happy with the purchase and they're phenomenal. Thanks for the advice all. Just updating.
