I received some coins today in a folder and I am more then certain that some of them may be fake. I'm trying to distinguish if any of them are real. I'm going to post them one at a time so please be patient. Any info would be helpful

I believe they are all fake. But I have all off the trade coins ever minted and wonder if there is a value for these?

Welcome to the forum!

This one appears to be fake. Unevenness in the stars and the left hand looks "weird" on the obverse. Uneven letters and the Eagles left talons are giveaways on the reverse.

can you weigh these? that can be another indication of being fake or real.

According to the CCF Coin Facts:
Content: 90% silver 10% copper
Weight: 27.2 grams
Diameter: 38.1 millimeters

This one is definitely a chinese cast fake. Here is a link with examples in various conditions so you can get an idea of what they should look like and how authentic coins wear.

and to CCF. Hope you have some real ones in that folder.

Best to get yourself a scale.

A coworker said his girlfriend got a Seated dollar as payment from a customer and her boss also got one a week before.

He brought it in for me to look at and while it looked pretty good but the date font was slightly off. I weighed it and it was 7 grams off.

The easiest way in my opinion to check your coins is get a $12 scale from Harbor Freight.

This isn't even a good fake. The reverse just looks off and I'm not an expert on Trade dollars.

There is a market for counterfeit collections. Many experienced numismatists readily display these next to their respective authentic counterparts.

If your intent on selling a fake, just be sure to market it as such. Selling counterfeits as authentic examples is a felony.
"whoever, with the intent to defraud, falsely makes, forges, counterfeits, or alters any obligation or other security of the United States, shall be fined...or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both."
18 U.S. Code § 471 - Obligations or securities of United States

However....selling without intent to defraud is perfectly legal.

The link to 18 U.S. Code § 47 is hilarious. Do not sell fake US coins in the US without "copy" stamped on them.

Rofl! I accidentally deleted the "1" from 471 when pasting! That had me in stitches!
Here is the real link.

The weird thing is that I have every coin made in all of the mints even the 1885 & 1884. They all weigh 24.9-25 grams. I bought them from a guy who said his mom died and he found them in a drawer. I can imagine how she managed to round up 27 fake Trade dollars in every mint. I've looked on ebay for listings that say fake and multiple have completed and the rarer ones do between 50-100 bucks. I wonder what a complete set would be worth?
